For Artissima 2024, 193 Gallery presents an exhibition that fosters a dialogue between the works of Joana Choumali (Ivory Coast), Lorenzo Vitturi (Peru-Italy), and Hyacinthe Ouattara(Burkina Faso-France). This exhibition unites the experiences of the three artists through their exploration of textiles and color, as well as their personal reflections on identity, humanity, and society.
A common thread links their practices, as they each use textiles to question societal issues and delve into their own origins and identities, narrating their personal histories through their art.
At the center of the booth, a powerful and unique textile-based installation by Hyacinthe Ouattara will be on display, acting as a focal point in dialogue with the works of the other artists. Ouattara’s piece will converse with the art of Joana Choumali, an internationally acclaimed artist and photographer who incorporates embroidery into her creative process, and Lorenzo Vitturi, whose Caminantes series combines cotisso and other materials to create striking photographic compositions.
