From March 16 to May 4, 193 Gallery presents the first major solo show by artist Valentina Canseco. With this solo exhibition, entitled Un Reflet Derrière une Chimère, the artist, who tends to link material worlds, takes up glass for the first time. She tests its preciousness and its particular relationship to space, exploring color and light even further. Liquid forms, colorful partitions and abstractions communicate for an contemplative experience.
Valentina Canseco’s art begins with observation: she draws inspiration from the living, from its organic volumes. She combines fleshy forms and curved lines - feminine curves - in her sculptures and paintings. Melted into sinuous layers of color, foundational mythological figures proclaim the feminine, monstrous, mysterious, always essential. The silhouette of the Gorgon is sketched in glass. Upon closer inspection, these dancing forms could belong to Venus. The body, before our eyes, remains elusive. It is a chimera.
