“When the powerful sit, they are none the weaker.” - African Proverb
distinctive blue headscarf of the Kenyan Women's Guild, a renowned
religious institution with a century-long history in the country, into her
own houndstooth checkered delight. Identified by its blue headscarf
wrapped around a member's hair, the Kenyan Women's Guild is a
gathering of female community under the Presbyterian Church–– a
community that Thandiwe’s grandmother was a member of for many
years.
In this black and white retelling, the materiality of the headscarf
becomes a powerful symbol of unity, carrying the weight of ancestral
wisdom and the pride of a vibrant heritage.
