From January 4 to February 25, 2024, 193 Gallery presents Entrelazos, a group show featuring works by four Central American artists: Zoila Andrea Coc-Chang (Guatemala/China), Antonio Pichilla Quiancain (Guatemala), Risseth Yangüez Singh (Panama) and Simon Vega (El Salvador), curated by Alejandra Josefina Paz. It took a collision of terrestrial plates for a volcanic chain to appear beneath the sea some fifteen million years ago. The pressure was so great that the seabed emerged in the form of islands which, over the years, became part of a continent. Central America is a natural link between countries to the north and south, where many cultural convergences exist. The exhibition Entrelazos brings together four artists from this once submerged region, exploring the place where differences meet. Their gaze gravitates towards a multiple material and discursive choice that mirrors the cultural heterogeneity of the territory. Here, historical moments, identity phenomena and cultural heritages are represented and dialogued to resist.
