Aldo Chaparro pushes the limits - Le Quotidien de l'Art

The delicate appearance of folded sheet metal by Peruvian-Mexican artist Aldo Chaparro (b. 1965) is the result of a close encounter with steel, in stark contrast to the context in which it was produced. The artist bends, knocks or jumps with both feet on selected pieces. A real iron crime! Stripped of its industrial function, steel is transformed into an illusory lightness, reflecting or absorbing light, as in T Black, April 19, 2022 11:10 (2022, €27,000) offered by 193 Gallery. The artist, who also works with wood and neon, likes to push the limits of materials. Conceived as a mini-tour of the world of contemporary creation, Kitikong Tilokwattanotai (Thailand), Rob Tucker (New Zealand), Francisco Vidal (Portugal-Angola), Sesse Elangwe (Cameroon) and Thandiwe Muriu (Kenya) are also represented.
