WAX exhibition at Musée de l'Homme in Paris

We are delighted to announce that artist Thandiwe Muriu will be featured in the WAX exhibition at the Musée de l'Homme in Paris, France, from February 5th to September 7th, 2025.

Brightly colored and adorned with diverse patterns, wax fabric is instantly recognizable. Often perceived as "African," this textile has stood the test of time and crossed borders. For over a decade, its popularity in Western societies has been unprecedented—found in clothing, accessories, and home décor, wax fabric has become increasingly present in homes and wardrobes. Yet, its unique history remains largely unknown.

This exhibition, spanning a total area of 430 m², aims to shed light on this remarkable fabric. It showcases a wide variety of textiles, illustrating the richness of the patterns, motifs, and colors that define it.

Bringing together perspectives from anthropologists, art historians, fashion designers, and contemporary artists, the exhibition explores wax fabric in all its facets. The visitor experience unfolds across two museum spaces: the Foyer Germaine Tillion and the Balcon des Sciences.
