Kenyans are renowned for their innovative spirit, constantly finding
creative solutions to everyday challenges using whatever resources are
readily available. One such versatile item commonly utilized is low-cost
nylon rope, easily obtainable from corner shops throughout the city. This
rope serves as a clothesline for hanging laundry, or provides sturdy
wrapping for cardboard boxes housing live chickens, or even acts as
support for curtains in modest living rooms. It is the Kenyan lifestyle
version of a completely versatile survival rope that is used for anything
and everything, limited only by its users ingenuity.
In this particular instance, with nimble hands and an imaginative vision,
Thandiwe skillfully wound a nylon rope around metal frames,
meticulously fashioning them into colourful high fashion eyewear. The
harmonious balance between form and function serves as a
demonstration of the boundless possibilities of creativity.
