The unique yellow brim seen in Child's Play can trace its roots back to the cover of a humble plastic laundry basket, one produced by a Kenyan factory known for its distinctive finish. These baskets have a special place in the local community - found in any supermarket across Kenya. As a child, Thandiwe would play hide-and-seek and sometimes curl up inside the large sized laundry basket to avoid being 'found'. More grown up now, Thandiwe elevated a hamper lid, repurposing it as a Vogueworthy statement hat within a small, enclosed space for Child's Play. And the name? Well, it couldn't be more fitting. The image is part of a series in which Thandiwe takes us on a nostalgic trip, exploring the toys and games that filled her childhood.
